Cultura offers courses funded by Adult, Community and Further Education (ACFE). Courses are Pre-accredited programs for people who want to get back into learning or work and focus on developing access to accredited training or employment.
The Cultura ACFE program offers a wide range of courses to the multicultural communities we work alongside. These include assisting community members with improving their basic English language ability, as well as assisting them improve their educational, digital, employment and life skills.
The program also assists people who are newly arrived to our country to gain a better understanding of the local Geelong community and the requirements of them as residents in a new country.

ACFE Courses
Below is a selection of courses that may be available to support applied English learning. Learners are placed into English levels that are suitable to their proficiency. The courses are then designed as a program that provides the best learning outcomes.
These short courses are designed to support low or non-English speakers to develop their language skills. These courses are funded through ACFE. They include Community conversations, conversation skills, fundamental English, elementary English, intermediate and advance English.
- Community conversations – Improve your conversational English skills in groups, with a focus on pronunciation.
- Conversation skills – Improve your conversational English skills and gain confidence when talking to others.
- Fundamental English – An introduction to English including the alphabet, in writing, reading and speaking, in a friendly and supportive environment.
- Elementary English – Learn basic English including the alphabet, in writing, reading and speaking, in a friendly and supportive environment.
- Intermediate English – Continue to build your confidence with the English language by learning intermediate English including the alphabet, in writing, reading and speaking, in a friendly and supportive environment.
- Advanced English – Learn English language, in writing, reading and speaking, in a friendly and supportive environment.
These short courses are designed to support low literacy and numeracy and is funded through ACFE. They include Literacy and Communication for Life, Financial Management, and Financial Wellbeing for Women.
- Literacy and communication for life – This course will introduce literacy and communication skills to help you with your day to day life.
- Financial management – Learn skills in managing finances including budgeting, managing debts, and the services available to help.
- Financial wellbeing for women – Learn, discuss and receive support in financial wellbeing, for women only. This covers managing money, savings and budgeting, debts and fines, relationships and money, and the services available to help.
These short courses are designed to provide an introduction into digital technology and are funded through ACFE. They include digital literacy level 1 and level 2.
- Digital literacy level 1 – This course is an introduction to using different software and applications, a smartphone, the internet, email, social media and how to stay safe online.
- Digital literacy level 2 – This course builds upon the level 1 introduction to using digital technology and expands your skills in different software and applications, the internet and social media.
These short courses are designed to provide an introduction into different industries and work environments to support the future vocational training and employment within these industries. These are funded through ACFE. They include aged care, community services, early childhood, introduction to food processing, introduction to health services, introduction to warehousing and distribution, introduction to professional cleaning, introduction to horticulture, and introduction to hospitality.
- Aged Care – This course will help develop skills for work in aged care.
- Community Services – This course will help develop skills for work in community service
- Early Childhood – This course will help develop skills for work in early childhood.
- Introduction to Food Processing – This course will help develop skills for work in food processing.
- Introduction to Health Services – This course will help develop skills for work in health services.
- Introduction to warehousing and distribution – This course will help develop skills for work in warehousing and distribution.
- Introduction to Professional Cleaning –This course will help develop skills for work in professional cleaning.
- Introduction to Horticulture – This course will help develop skills for work in horticulture or gardening associated trades.
- Introduction to Hospitality – This course will help develop skills for work in hospitality including a café or restaurant
These short courses are designed to provide support in specific areas that have been identified as needed to undertake further study. These are funded through ACFE. They include return to study, your skills passport, and online communication.
- Return to Study – Prepare yourself to return to studying through skill development in time management, understanding classroom and training structures, assessment requirements, placement or on the job work requirements, and student support and how to access it.
- Your Skills Passport – This course will help you to identify your skills and how to create a skills passport, which will list the occupation-relevant training records and experience to assist you in employment.
- Online Communication – This course will prepare you for communicating in the online environment, using emails and the internet.
These short courses are designed to provide information and skills to find and retain employment. These are funded through ACFE. They include new futures, pathway to trade industries, prepare for employment, prepare for employment via Reconnect, resilience, digital literacy, and employability and placement.
- New Futures – This course will help you to identify your areas of employability and how to plan for the future through work and study.
- Pathway to Trade Industries – Learn about the various trade industries and the different pathways to access employment and training in these industries.
- Prepare for Employment – Prepare yourself for work through skills including resume writing, job applications, and preparing for interviews. Through this course you will create your own resume and be able to respond to job applications.
- Prepare for Employment via Reconnect – Prepare yourself for employment through the supported Reconnect program. This is designed to reconnect the unemployed into employment opportunities.
- Resilience – Learn skills and tips in resilience to support you in long-term employment and how to retain employment.
- Digital Literacy – Learn skills in using digital devices for study or work. You will learn the basics in computers, software, internet and social media.
- Employability and Placement – Prepare yourself for employment and work placement through skills development.
